Vijf bekentenissen van een blogger

TAG | My life in 21 questions

Hi guys! If you follow me on Twitter you might know that I’ve been ill for over a week now. That’s why I couldn’t post a new blogpost last Tuesday, but today I’m back! Since I’m not feeling like my normal self right now I thought it’d be fun to do something different in todays blogpost. I’ve searched all around the world wide web and found this TAG that’s called ‘my life in 21 questions’. So here’s to ‘getting to know me better‘!

1. Are you named after anyone? Yes, I’m named after a girl from the school my dad used to work at as a teacher. He loved the name and thought it was unique.

2. When was the last time you cried? I have to admit that I’m a very sensitive and emotional person so I tear up quite easy. The last time I cried was yesterday evening when I felt really ill and overwhelmed by everything.

3. Do you have kids? Yes. Haha, no, just kidding.

4. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself? That’d be awesome, it’d definitely try to!

5. Do you use sarcasm a lot? [sarcasm] Not really. [/sarcasm]

6. Will you ever bungee-jump? I’ve learned to never say no, but I’m leaning towards that answer. I’m not afraid of heights or making the jump, but it just doesn’t seem appealing to me.

7. What’s your favorite cereal? I hardly ever eat cereal (shocker, I know!) but I’d have to say Lucky Charms (even though it’s hard to get these in the Netherlands).

8. What’s the first thing you notice about people? Their facial expression. I always notice whether people look happy or sad.

9. What is your eye colour? Grayish-blue.

10. Scary movie or happy endings? Movies with a happy ending all the way. I’d like to watch a scary movie sometime though. Any recommendations?

11. Favorite smells? Tuna, the seaside and the smell of a fire burning wood.

12. Summer or winter? I like both! I love how light and bright summer can be, but I love how cozy winter is.

13. Computer or television? Computer. I grew up (mostly) without a TV, so it has never been a big part of my life. My laptop however is. I use it all the time!

14. What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home? I think that has to be Idre, Sweden. It took two days to get there and it felt like we where in a whole different kind of world; it was beautiful!

15. Do you have any special talents? I can bend my thumb backwards to my arm. Oh, that’s not what you mean? Well, let’s just pretend my flexibility is a talent!

16. Where were you born? The Netherlands, Europe.

17. What are your hobbies? Reading, blogging, baking, cooking, watching videos and movies, traveling, writing, photography, going to musea, painting.. that’s it I guess!

18. Do you have any pets? Yes, at my parents house (in the countryside) we have four cats. Ibi (female), Jacob (male), Brooklyn (female) and Tobbe (male). They are all related to each other. Ibi is the mother of the other three.

19. Favorite movie? That’s such a hard question. I usually don’t have one favorite. A movie that really made an impact on me though is Dead Poets Society.

20. Do you have any siblings? Yes I do! I have one older brother and one older sister and I love having siblings.

21. What do you want to be when you grow up? This is going to sound so cheesy, but all I want to be is happy and healthy. As for my career, I’m excited to see where it’ll take me, but I’d love to do something creative and combine it with writing.

Twenty-one questions later and you all know a lot more about me. Did anything surprise you?

See you next week!

200 Blog Followers!

It never was and it never will be about the numbers, about how many followers I have. I can say that because I started this blog because I love writing, I love sharing my life and I have loads and loads of creative ideas that I needed an outlet for. However, when I reached two hundred followers yesterday my heart skipped a beat. I love that there are 200 of you, my readers, who are following what I write and what I do on this blog. So for this day it is about the numbers, about the 200 of you who have subscribed to this blog and everyone who is reading it!

I am truly grateful for each and every one of you out there who has been reading my blog! I started in August 2012 and almost two years later I am still writing, still loving it (maybe even more) and I am so excited for the journey that’s ahead!

So, thanks. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much!

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

One of the best things about blogging is when people tell me they like to read my blog and they feel inspired. I was utterly surprised when my newly made blogger friend from commented on my last blogpost saying that she nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Thank you so much, you made my day!

Winning this Award is already awesome, but there are some fun assignments attached to receiving this award and I think you’ll like them.

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog
  2. Copy these rules and show off the award
  3. Share seven facts about yourself
  4. Nominate 15 other blogs and share this blogpost with them
  5. Show the award on your blog and follow the nominated blogs on bloglovin’

Let’s get to the part you’ve all been waiting for.. seven facts about me! Haha, just kidding, but you never know, maybe you’d like to know more about me!

#1 My favourite subjects in high school were English and Art. What a suprise, eh? I’ve never been an amazing drawer or anything like that, but I had the creative mind that was needed to create things and I loved doing it. I still like to do crafts, paint and even learn about art through books and musea. A funny fact about my love for the English language is that I’m pretty sure I learned most of my basic vocabulary through watching the series House M.D. and Lost without Dutch subtitles.

#2 I have a love for wrapping paper. I recently discovered this about myself and I don’t mind it at all. I’d like to wrap gifts in the ‘right’ wrapping paper, and that’s different for every person. That’s what I tell myself as an argument for having a growing collection of different wrapping papers. One of my most favorite places to buy wrapping paper from is the (flying) Tiger.

#3 Food and eating is a big deal to me. I like going to eat out in amazing restaurants, but I like cooking for myself as well. Trying new food items, healthy options and diversity are some of the most important aspects of eating to me. As well as the social aspect, because there’s nothing like having a meal with friends or family. I also like my plate to be filled in a beautiful color scheme.

#4 My favorite color is green and it has been since I was 15. I remember falling in love with that color when I moved house and bought new things for my room in a bright green color. I love mint green, lime green, the color of grass and all the greens in between.

#5 I have synesthesia which means (to me) that I have color associations with names, the days of the week, months, numbers, letters and some words. I’ve done a school project about synesthesia and discovered it’s quite rare, but there are other ways of having synesthesia. Some people see colors (in their mind) whilst listening to music, for example.

#6 I’ve grown up with having cats as pets. We (at my parents house) currently have four living with ys. They’re all related which means I’ve watched them all being born and growing up. Their names are (from eldest to youngest) Ibi, Brooklyn, Jacob and Tobbe.

#7 I used to have an addiction to iced tea. I started drinking it when I was around twelve years old and loved it so much. At one point I could drink a liter in one sitting. I’ve since then stopped drinking Iced Tea (and soda for that matter) all together. I now only drink soda on rare occasions and instead drink pure fruit juice, tea and water.

That’s enough about me for today. Let’s talk about 15 other bloggers that I love to follow. Since 15 bloggers just seemed like quit a lot to me I’m sharing ten of my most favorite with you. These are not listed in any particular order.

  1. Piece of a Cookie – DIY, Home Decor (Dutch)
  2. Young House Love – Home Decor, DIY
  3. Wonderlicht – Creativity, DIY, Home Decor (Dutch)
  4. A Beautiful Mess – DIY, lifestyle
  5. Uit Pauline’s Keuken – Food (Dutch
  6. Woonguide – Wooninspiratie (Dutch)
  7. Enigheid – Interior, photography (Dutch)
  8. Nordic Days – Home Decor
  9. Junkaholique – Lifestyle, DIY
  10. HannahMaggs – Baby, Beauty, Lifestyle

Here you go. Give them all a chance and I’m sure you’ll like them! Thanks again for the award, I feel honored and grateful! And thanks to all of you reading my blog, I appreciate it so much!

Cheers to Life

I have to be honest with you guys, today’s blogpost is pure improvisation. I’m writing this on the day it’s going to be posted (which I normally don’t) and I have no idea where this story will end. That’s okay though. I guess it’s part of being a blogger. You don’t always know where to go, what to write, what to say and what it’ll look like in the end. As for the photo’s in this blogpost. I took some pictures of things around the house (and garden) that I love or that make me smile.

Part of ‘me not knowing what I’ll be writing about today’ is due to the fact that my mind is a little preoccupied. If you’ve read last weeks blogpost you know that I am currently working towards a graduation internship. I’m in my fourth year of studying Communication & Multimedia Design and after four years it’s time for me to put all my knowledge in to practice and graduate. With no classes, hardly any homework, but instead a lot of preparation, thinking and searching to do I am thinking a lot about my life, my future and what I want to achieve.

I’ve talked about this with my friends and I’ll say it again to you. It’s weird to think that I don’t know where I’ll be next year at this time. Every year for the last 18 (or so) I’ve always known that I’d be in school doing what that year of school asked of me. Going to high school, choosing subjects, graduating, going to college, choosing a minor, doing an internship and graduating.

Now the time has come where I don’t know what my life will look like next year and I don’t have to go to school anymore (after graduating that is of course!). I can choose to look for a job, I can travel, I can do and be whatever I want. And that’s weird. And a bit scary. A lot of excitement is involved as well, because when I think about all the possibilities it makes me happy and grateful.

I’ve always been someone who likes to be organized, structured and who likes things to be planned. The last couple of months I’ve learned to take it day by day, follow my heart, see where it takes me. I’m (trying) not to stress and worry about life, my future and ‘doing things right’. As a religious person I strongly believe that I don’t have to worry about tomorrow because I don’t have to do it all alone. He has plans for me, He has a path mapped out for me. Besides, I’m young, I’m excited, I want to learn and experience all the things that will cross my path. Cheers to life!

I also went to a Dutch store called HEMA and found colorful stickers, two stamps that are great fun and of course I couldn’t host a giveaway without including washi tape. I’ll send the price with a card signed by me!

I’m using Rafflecopter to organize this giveaway. There should be a widget or link below (it might take a second to load, be patient). A new beginning!

Welcome lovely readers,

I’ve been blogging since August 2012 using my blogspot account. I’ve loved every minute of it, however I didn’t feel like blogspot was the right place for me anymore. I’ve decided to finish my third year as a college student and start blogging again when ‘the big break’ starts, but now at this new place! I’m feeling excited and optimistic about this new start!

If you would like to follow this blog you can leave your e-mail adress down below where it says ‘follow this blog’.

I’m also on Twitter and Instagram by the username CatieMcCartney. I’d love to see you there!
